My Argument Via dA debate forum:
SOPA and PIPA won't solve anything.
It will hinder our abilities to reach new audiences as artists and further compromise online businesses. It's going to start an internet-civil-war between government and people.
It's senseless.
If Congress passes these, then they are taking away more of our freedoms as American's, and our civil rights.
The U.S. government has taken many of our rights away in the past ten years, post 9/11. If no one has noticed, this is just another step into an anti-democratic nation.
We are not a free country, and this further proves that.
I am outraged.

I wasn't really into the whole occupy movement thing last summer but this bill certainly gives creedance to the concept that the government only represents a privileged few. As an artist with an online presence, I can understand concerns with copyright infringement, but neither of these measures is likely to deal with the kind of stuff we care about, only to make sure that Sony and Disney maintain a hegemony over what people can see and have to pay for. It places a valuable tool in the hands of the oppressor and the censor as well as those who would restrict open discussion on any contentious issue. It is the equivalent of using a fuel-air bomb to swat a fly in your kitchen.
